Shadowboxes
I have a lot of miniatures that I have purchased for various future miniature projects
that are still in the planning stages. Instead of packing them away in boxes,
I display them in many varieties of shadowboxes. I group them in little "room scenes"
with similar items displayed together.
This is an antique biscuit tin cover I purchased at an auction.
This is an antique wood box with a large round handle. I'm not sure what it was originally used for. I put a hanger on the back and hung it up as a shadowbox. It could be hung either way, but I wanted the height for each "room". I grouped like things together in each room, starting with the largest piece in the back and moving forward. I varied the heights of each piece to add interest and create a flow in each room. The top left is a general store, top right is a gas station, bottom left is a barn and the bottom right is a hobby workroom.
I purchased these two crate shelves very inexpensively at a craft show.
These brass and glass shelf units are great. I have several.

I had my Dad build this case for me. I had originally planned on putting Precious Moments in it, but my minis were taking over. It makes a great display for many different groupings with a wide variety of themes.
Here are various items I've collected with a nautical theme. I hand-carved and painted the zebra rocking horse.
I made the green trunk on the left and a lot of the other items in both rooms are from Wright Guide Minis.
Here are some Early Americana type minis and on the right are a few of the items for a barn scene. I also made the canvas covered trunk on the right, from a kit.
Most of the gas station items are from Wright Guide. The rocking horse and Victorian house on the right are Hallmark Christmas ornaments.

Most of the tools are by Sir Thomas Thumb.
I purchased this typesetters drawer in Hannibal, MO. It was completely black with dirt and grime. It took a lot of cleaning the wood and polishing the brass connectors to get it clean, but it was worth the effort. After cleaning and stripping off all the black, I just gave it a coat of wax, and the beautiful patina of the piece showed through. It took quite a while to go through my miniature "inventory" to find things that fit in the small and narrow spaces, but eventually I got them all filled. It's a great dust collector too!
I found these small square shadowboxes in the frame section at Target.
I made a second frame to compliment the first one. Doll by Susan Scogin.

I purchased this picket fence corner shelf at a craft shop.
I made this shadowbox for my Mom for Christmas 1999.
