The Sandlot
I made this plane at a NAME National Convention in Chicago in a class by Karen Skupien of Diminutive Specialties. It was really fun to make. You can see all the different parts we used to make the plane, like a radio flyer wagon, shutters, siding, crates and a washbasin. It created a whole new project for me
Here is a view of the back of the plane.
The racer and soap box were also from a kit by Karen Skupien
Here is the back of the vehicles.
The base is made out of old fencing. I added dirt and moss for the landscaping.
I'm testing the different props I've made to see how everything fits. The tree is a sagebrush which I've added steps to for climbing (Istill need to add the leaves). There will be a girl swinging on the tire swing and also two boys playing cowboys and Indians. The little cowboy will be tied to the tree, crying, while the little Indian will be dancing around him whooping his war cry.
I've added the two vehicles to see how they look.
The sidewalk is made from squares of heavy, grey paper that I've aged and also added cracks in places. The Spaniel dog will be peeing on the fire hydrant and the other dog will be sticking his head through a hole in the fence. There will also be a little girl pulling a wagon that has stopped to peek through a peephole in the fence to watch all the kids playing. I will also be adding a street light on the corner.
The first picture shows the various pieces and parts I used to make the streetlamp. Starting from the bottom...I used 3 buttons, a 1/2" square dowel that I sanded on each corner to make it an octagon shape, a metal decorative bead, a round dowel, another metal bead, part of a snap, then I curved an aluminum tube into an arch for the top, then comes a metal finding of some sort, and finally a green overhead light from Dee's Delights. I then bent soldering wire into curly-cue shapes and glued them into the arch.
All the large props are now in place. Looks like everything is going to fit.
