The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden was a project that the Midwest Miniature Guild that I belong to, took on as a year long project. I decided to make mine bigger (the original was the inside walls only), so I added onto the base and added the outside walls. My garden is 1" scale, but I thought the brick sheets we used were too large, so I used 1/2" bricks instead. I also added detailing around the top edges of the walls and above the door. I cut apart the sheets into single bricks and added them on top of the original layer of bricks. I love how the brick detailing turned out. It was alot of work, but well worth the effort.
Here is a back view of the garden with the opening for the gate entrance. I topped off the walls at key points with balls to add architectural detail to the walls.
The finished walls after grouting and aging the brick.
Here is the back again, with the fencing in place on top of the walls.
This is the state of the garden right now. I have added trees, grass, a stone path,
Here is a closeup of the front door. I made it from scratch using commercial hardware for the door handle and hinges. You can see the detail of the brickwork around the front door and under the top wall edge. The fence is plastic, aged with rustall to look old.
This is a closeup of the pink tree outside the front door.
The back view of the house.
A closeup of the back wall. I found this garden plaque somewhere.
Here is a great closeup of the vining that is going to be on all the walls. I mail ordered this from somebody. I think it's grass roots. I dried and preserved it with glycerine. I will be adding ivy leaves to all the vining.
This is a top view looking down. It's more finished now than it shows here.
This is a closeup of the front door from the inside.
A closeup of the fish pond and flowers. I will be adding a waterfall
